Can vitamins help with severe depression?

can taking vitamins help with depression. take prozac which helps a little. can you become tolarant to prozac

ANSWER:

Fraid vitamins are not really going to help. The effects of Prozac don't tend to wear off, however it does not work for everyone, nor for all forms of depression. Exogenous or reactive depression responds better to therapy, notably CBT, rather than medication.

ANSWER:

A healthy diet will always help, but taking supplements isn't the answer. If you are still struggling, go back to your G.P and talk it over. There's no evidence to suggest that vitamins in themselves will help with depression, and you need to consider re-thinking your medication dosage and the possibility of counselling - or other support.
Don't take this problem upon yourself - get help!

ANSWER:

I've been clinically depressed for so many years and I've took vitamins faithfully for a long time and they don't help. I only wish it were that easy. Stick to the antidepressants. It's possible to become tolerant to any antidepressant. Then the doctor usually increases your dosage or you try something else. I've tried about every antidepressant out there, including Prozac. I'm currently on Paxil.

ANSWER:

Not on their own, no. But there are other micro-nutrients which can help tremendously: Tyrosine and 5-HTP get great reviews.
I believe in high doses of vitamin B complex, but always taken with either fish or flax seed oil.
And don't forget the "happy" vitamin - Vit. D.

But you mention severe depression - this would need a doctor's opinion.

ANSWER:

A good, balanced diet will definitely help. Also, a routine exercise program helps a lot.

If you don't feel like the prozac is working as well as it did at 1 point, contact your doc about increasing the dosage or changing to a different med (there are tons out there).

Good luck.

ANSWER:

I take a b-vitamin complex and omega 3's after coming off anti-depressants. Sometimes i suspect they do me some good, but never know really, it can't hurt to take them though so i do.

Not sure about tolerant to prozac, but i don't have much belief in anti-depressants.

ANSWER:

one of ingredient of vitamin b-complex family - mecobalamin increases brain glucose uptake and after taking it you will fill comfort and you can think some thing because your brain takes glucose... its dose is 1500 microgram/day.

ANSWER:

just sit outside in the sun with a nice book =)

ANSWER:

no you need a higher dose see your doc

ANSWER:
